The final six artifacts chosen to represent the 1920's-30's gangster culture. Model A Ford, alcohol, fedora, money, tommy gun, and hand cuffs. I chose a 3D high contrast style to render my icons in to give the feeling of an interrogation. All the objects were rendered to look as if a spotlight was shining on them illuminating one side, and leaving all other sides in the dark. Since the gangsters were criminals and often had run ins with the police this rendering style proved acceptable. However, in terms of readability the icons were sometimes confusing. To help solve this problem the implied sides of all objects that just bled into the negative space were given a line to establish the icon better. The line is not full though. It breaks in a spot on every icon to allow the white space and negative space to merge. I felt this formal quality was essential in the success of the high contrast and made for a far more interesting icon.
